So since the wedding, we have racked up quite the collection of gifts (we are working on the thank you cards, don’t worry!) and pretty much have replaced everything in our kitchen with new things.

So what do we do with all the old stuff? When we moved into the house and combined everything we had, we had two of everything so we kept what we wanted and gave the rest to goodwill. So what did we decide to do now? Garage Sale!

We have quite the collection of small kitchen electronics, dishes and glasses, books, TVs, digital cameras, movies, scrapbooking supplies, clothes, etc. We have never done something like this before so I’m not sure about any garage sale etiquette. I think my biggest worry is we will be sitting there all day and no one will show up. To fight this fear, I searched for every “Post your garage sale for free” website I could find and posted ours. But I do not have much confidence in this technique. Isn’t most of the garage sale type older ladies looking for collectibles? This is not the garage sale for you. Plus it seems that the Internet is probably not the best medium of advertising considering the clientele. When was the last time you heard grandma say “OK, lets google some garage sales!” I mean really, my mom doesn’t even have an email address.

So I paid a little bit for some print advertising in the Houston Chronicle and in the Houston Greensheet. We will let you know how we do.

Update: We sold just about everything we were selling and most of good stuff was gone in the first hour. By 11am, visits were very thin and not much purchasing so we shut it down around noon. We exceeded our expectations and made over $400.
