Today I had my first organized practice ride for the MS 150. It was called the Frost Bike 50 and was just up the road at Lone Start College-CyFair. Now I have taken rides of usually around 12-15 miles many times and last weekend I did one of about 23 miles. My options for today were 17, 45, or 55 miles. I was looking for something between the 17 and 45 for my first ride, but I decided to go for the 45 mile route. It started at 8 am this morning and the temperatures were in the lower 40s and it was only 48 by 12:30 when I got home, so the whole ride was very cold. I wore a shirt, a pullover, and an athletic jacket along with my biking shorts with another pair of shorts over them. I realized maybe I should invest a couple bucks on some full finger gloves instead of the half finger gloves.
So after my first organized long ride, I came to the conclusion that “I can do this”. My butt was numb but rest stops every 12 miles or so really helps. My legs are tired but only after resting for a few hours, so day two of the MS 150 might be pretty tough, we shall see.
I’ve been using an app on my iPhone that uses the GPS to track my progress. Today’s ride took me just over 3 hours (not counting rest stops) and was actually about 42 miles. Below is the map of my tracking.
