This past Saturday I had my second organized ride to get ready for the MS 150 called the Puddle for the Ducks which is put on by Ducks Unlimited. Since last ride I did the 45 mile route, this time I decided to try something harder to see if I could make it, which meant doing the 70 mile route. I made it in just under 5 hours (ride time not counting rest stops). It was a pretty tough ride, the first 12-15 miles the route headed south which was into a headwind but it was early in the morning so the wind hadn’t picked up yet. The next 30-35 miles was great because it was mostly heading north with a great wind at your back and some down hills, which made it easy to coast along at around 20 mph. The rest of the ride was pretty much hell, having to come back south into the headwind again that had picked up over the hours, I was doing pretty good if I got my speedometer over 10 mph. There weren’t many people that did the 70 mile route, but I was one of the last people back, but I was glad I made it even though it scares me now if I can make it over 150 miles in two days. This weekend I will be doing the “Pedaling the Prairie” but I’m just going to do the 45 mile route this time to keep in shape.
